About WENDY THOMPSON
Hi, my name is Wendy Thompson. I was born on the Island of New Providence where I lived until the age of five years old. My mom then moved to the Island of Eleuthera where I spent most of my childhood. I am the last of six children. At the age of 15, my mom relocated to Nassau where I completed my high school education at L. W. Young Senior high school. Upon graduating from high school, I went into the working field. Living in The Bahamas has provided me with the opportunity to grow and develop; both in my personal and professional life. Being a teacher was always a goal of mine.
From a very young age, I have always known that teaching was what I wanted to do. Additionally, my love for children has led me to this career which began at the age of 22. I started at Kid E Academy where there was a small ratio of students. After spending 19 years at Kid E academy, I wanted to move to a school that challenged my teaching capabilities while expanding the knowledge I had developed thus far. In the year 2000, I moved to Day Spring Academy. For the first eight years, I taught K2. I also had the opportunity to teach K3 for the next five years and presently K4. Teaching at Day Spring has been an exhilarating experience. It’s quite fulfilling observing my students achieve various milestones.
Despite the fact that I have been teaching for over 28 years, I believe in constant improvement and mastering “my craft”. With this in mind, I enrolled in the Grandfather program at The Ministry of Education where we were taught what is needed to meet the need of each child. I graduated with an Auxiliary Certificate. I also attended and participated in many workshops that have enhanced my knowledge leading me to become a more effective teacher. Additionally, I obtained an Associate of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education at Success Training College where I graduated with high honors.
My hobbies are bowling, playing softball, sewing, reading and most of all, helping persons to learn about the Bible. Family is something that I hold dear to me. I have one son and two granddaughters. They are the love of my life.
